Just Egg, a product developed by 'Eat Just, Inc.' — an San Fransisco's plant-based alternative food company — replicates the shape and texture of an egg by adding turmeric to protein extracted from mung beans. It has zero cholesterol and is certified as a non-GMO food. In 2021, Just Egg needed a creative agency to help it break into the Korean market.

We faced several exciting challenges with this project. First and foremost, South Korea is renowned as the world's barbecue capital, so we knew we had to make a substantial impact to inspire curiosity and encourage Koreans to try a plant-based egg alternative. Furthermore, the year 2021 saw the most intense global lockdown period due to Covid-19, adding another layer of complexity to our mission. So how do you create buzz around a plant-based product at the height of lockdown and strict COVID-19 restrictions?

We tapped into the insight that South Koreans are always on the lookout for ways to treat their bodies better and make more sustainable choices. Led by Korean Creative Director Haehyun Park, the Monks team developed a localised communication strategy with the new slogan "땅이 낳은 에그" (Egg born from the earth). We rolled out yolk-y gold print and social assets showcasing our product in mouth-watering breakfast muffins and sandwiches, captured in heroic poses to herald in a food revolution.


In tandem, we transformed the challenges of social distancing into a hyper-personalised experience at our plant-based pop-up restaurant, 'Pioneers Club'. We invited local plant-based pioneers to enjoy a private dinner in the heart of Seoul’s Yongsan district. Check it out below!
